Lomi Lomi massage: flowing movements from Hawaii
Lomi Lomi is a Hawaiian full-body massage with long, flowing movements. The word means “to knead” in Hawaiian — the flowing strokes are meant to resemble the gentle waves of the ocean. Forearms and hands massage the entire body in a rhythmic sequence, with generous warm oil on a massage table.
What makes Lomi Lomi special
The long, flowing strokes across the entire body are the heart of Lomi Lomi. Unlike more structured massage styles, the body is treated as a whole — movements cross the boundaries between individual body zones. Many describe the result as a deep sense of letting go. In western studios a simplified version is often offered; some providers work in the more traditional Hawaiian Kahuna style.
- Long, flowing movements with forearms and hands
- Full-body treatment with warm oil
- Calm, ritual atmosphere in many studios
What to expect
